Her groundbreaking album Gula Gula (1990) earned her international acclaim and multiple Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy Awards). Throughout her career, she has collaborated with music legends like Jan Garbarek and Peter Gabriel, blending genres and pushing artistic boundaries.

Her newest work, Alva, released in September 2024, is a deeply personal and powerful exploration of her Sami roots. With this album, Mari Boine invites listeners to experience the rich traditions of Sami culture, while also addressing personal struggles and the ongoing challenges indigenous people face. The album reflects her resilience and connection to nature, featuring tracks like “Anárjoh’ gáttis” (By My Beautiful River), a tribute to her late uncle and the beautiful landscapes of her childhood.
